5 Things to do when not feeling your best

We all have those days where we are feeling less than wonderful. For me, today is one of those days.. Even us healthy people have our off days. There are so many articles out there claiming the knowledge of what is proper to do when not feeling well. For me, those articles don’t seem to cut it. I want to read an article that not only gives you advice on how to nourish your body but also on how to nourish your soul.

So, I decided it was time I write one myself! Last night I had my first experience with espresso. I drove myself to dutch bro’s for a coffee; I had slept in late and was feeling down so I thought coffee was my quick fix! Boy how I was wrong!! I downed one coffee and decided it wasn’t enough so I ordered a large iced coffee with coconut milk, raspberry syrup and double shot espresso. And wallah! Detox symptoms for the win!

Anyways, here is my foolproof guide of things to do when you are feeling like a dirty hippie (in a bad way)

  1. Stay Hydrated– The #1 key to feeling better is to eliminate. Drinking water will not only keep you hydrated but will flush your body of unwanted toxins. Fevers cause you to lose body water which also leads to dehydration if you are not getting enough fluids. So drink up! Staying hydrated helps with nausea, and keeping your upper and lower respiratory systems clear!
  2. Recharge– We’re talking about actually recharging here. Not your phone!! Your body! Whether you decide to do this by taking that well deserved nap, reading a book or taking time to Netflix and ACTUALLY chill taking time to relax and do you is very important for your physical and metal health!
  3. Take a bath– I don’t know about you, but the shower is where I do most of my de-stressing. Taking a bath or shower is one of the most relaxing situations you can put yourself in. So drop a bath bomb into your water, use some essential oils, dim the lights and light some candles!
  4. Eat Better– Have you ever heard the statement “When I eat like crap, I feel like crap”? This could not be more true! Eating fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and grains (huge smoothies); brings you back to basics and helps cleanse and rid your body of processed waste. In the long run, you will have more energy and better health!
  5. Get your sunshine on!– Nature…cheaper than therapy and has the power to comfort and calm you! Take time to step out into the sun and breathe in fresh air. Whether you take a walk to clear your head or sit down under a tree, nature has a healing power unlike any other! If it is cold out make sure to bundle up, or just admire a breeze coming in from a window. By exposing your body to sunlight, your skin will absorb vitamin d. Vitamin d,  fights depression, supports a healthy immune system, brained nervous system, etc.!
